Contributing missions and data access

ERS1,2 and Envisat

ESA is contributing data for all Supersites (permanent and candidates) and for all Natural Laboratories. The data are available from ESA's virtual archives (VA) archive4 and archive2. Some data are still missing because of ESA's limited production capacity. To access missing data (raw, L0 format), please send shopping cart files to supersites@unavco.org. We also welcome data repatriations, donations of ESA data to the supersites. The data are available from ESA's virtual archives (VA) archive4 and archive2.

Data Access. For archive4, register for the ESA Earth Observation single-sign on system using this page. For archive2 data, request to be added as a Co-PI to the Geohazard Supersites Cat-1 project by e-mailing ESA's Earth Observation help desk (eohelp@esa.int). Archive4 is a replacement for archive2, and should contain all of the archive2 data.

TerraSAR-X

DLR provides data for the permanent Supersites and for event Supersites.

Data Access. (1) Permanent Supersites: Requires an approved project through the DLR's TerraSAR-X Science Service system. Proposals should be entitled "Data provision for GEO's Hawaii (or other) Geohazard Supersite". The procedure is the same as for any DLR proposal except that the data will be provided free of charge. (2) Event Supersites: DLR and its commercial partner ASTRIUM infoterra have been providing 3 month of data without restrictions for the Tohoku-Oki and Van earthquakes. No restrictions but requires access credentials to ESA's archive2 (see above). For details see M Eineder's Fringe 2011 presentation. For the TerraSAR-X Supersites page, [ click here].

UAVSAR

NASA is observing the Supersites and Natural Laboratories located along the Pacific Rim (Japan to Chile) with the airborne UAVSAR (Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle Synthetic Aperture Radar) with frequent revisiting of the U.S. Supersites (San Andreas Fault and Hawaii Supersite). For the coverage see [link to UAVSAR Supersites webpage]. For a complete listing of flight lines see this page.

Data Access. UAVSAR data are openly available from (no password required): http://uavsar.jpl.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/data.pl

Cosmo-Skymed

The Italian Space Agency (ASI) is providing data for the Hawaii Supersite (100 scenes/year).

Data Access. Data access requires an approved proposal with the Italian Space Agency.

Radarsat-1

The Canadian Space Agency has contributed all these data for the Hawaii Supersite.

Data Access. No restrictions but requires access credentials to ESA's archive2 (see above).

ALOS-PALSAR

Jaxa has contributed 50 scenes for the Hawaii Supersite, and selected scenes for event Supersites (27 scenes for the Tohoku-Oki earthquake, 8 for Haiti and 6 for Chile).

Data Access. No restrictions but requires access credentials to ESA's archive2 (see above). Users need to acknowledge the terms and condition for the use of ALOS data.

Optical: Spot 4,5 Pleiades.

Images for specific event Supersites for events associated with significant differential surface displacements.

Data Access. CNES is working on procedures for open data access. Users with urgent data needs may directly contact Steven Hosford at CNES until a permanent solution has been found.

JERS-1, Radarsat-2, RISAT-1, KOMPSAT-5

Data of these satellites are not yet available through the Supersites but we are working on this.

The Supersites website is provided by UNAVCO and WInSAR on behalf of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO)
and the European Space Agency (ESA).
